TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Doing your taxes has now gotten a whole lot easier. VTAP, or the Volunteer Tax Assistance Program, is funded through MSA and you can use them for free to get all your documents in order, so you can get your tax returns for little to no hassle. For updates see https://www.vtap.org/

MEDICAL AMNESTY

Bringing together the voices of over 70,000 students across five campuses, MSA was effectively able to push the legislature into passing Minnesota's Medical Amnesty law. Now, if a friend of yours is in need of medical assistance because of alcohol consumption, you can call for help without risk of citation. Click the image for more information.

SEXUAL ASSAULT POLICY

In 2014-2015 we advocated for a minimum sanction guideline for student conduct hearings, giving those who rule on disciplinary measures a better idea of the appropriate punishment for the severity of their actions. This helps to ensure that students are not simply put on academic probation for raping another student, a situation that was far too common.

PREFERRED NAME POLICY

With the help of the Student Senate and many other student entities, MSA advocates successfully pushed the University to adopt a preferred name policy. The new policy went into effect April of 2015. Students who identity with something other than their birth name can use their preferred name on all official University documents in all University systems.

DINING OPTIONS

MSA worked with various other student groups and administration to increase dining options on campus including Kosher and Halal meals.

In January of 2018, a report was published with recommendations for the future of dining. This full report can be viewed by clicking here.

BUS ROUTES

After hearing many student complaints about the campus bus routes not serving their needs, our transit committee took action. Using research and student feedback, they proposed an entirely new bus route system to Parking & Transportation Services implemented in Fall 2015.
